“Dem bones gonna rise again!” In the Western Province of Kenya, in the Busia district, live the Nilotic-speaking Teso people. The Teso are closely related to both the Karamajong of Uganda and the Turkana of Kenya. The Teso are largely unreached, with a population near 322,540. Should a family fall sick, the Teso believe that it is caused by the unrest of the spirit of a family member who has already died. “Ekutet” is performed to release the spirit so that the sick may be healed. A bull is slaughtered, and the sick and others feast and drink locally made millet beer while those taking part in the ritual begin to shout to the spirit to leave the sick alone. Then the bones of a family member who has been dead and buried at least 15 years or more are exhumed. Those exhuming the bones will silently transfer them to a tree or shallow hole, where the bones will be able to be seen and have air. They do not talk for fear of going mad if they do. Please pray for the Teso of Kenya, asking that they will come to know the only One who can truly heal. Pray that God will call out someone to take them the message of the Gospel, a message of hope, resurrection and life. http://imb.org/main/pray/
