Baptist churches in Nampula, Mozambique, have seen firsthand the devastation that Sida (AIDS) brings to a Makhuwa family, how one by one it spreads, and eventually children are left with no parents and many are HIV-positive. In an already economically poor family without the means to support their own children, many are forced to take on more mouths to feed and often cannot afford to send the children to school or provide proper health care. The pastors and Dianne Randolph, missionary to the Makhuwa, have worked to organize a HIV/AIDS project for the adult victims and also have begun to help the orphans. Dianne writes: “We have 14 pastors participating, and they have each identified five adults and five orphans for their church to pray for and nurture with whatever resources they have to offer. Pray that we will have wisdom in identifying the people who need help. Pray that they will all accept Jesus as Savior and Lord while there is still time. We have had several to die already even as we try to get started with this project. Pray for an International Service Corps couple to come and work with this project, these pastors, and the counselors in each church. We need this person urgently to get this program off to a really good start.”
